Late Score Costs Softball Against Eastern Arizona
GateWay Softball lost the lead late in a 6-5 defeat to Eastern Arizona on Tuesday.  EAC was down 5-4 in the top of the seventh inning when Savannah Clausen homered on a 0-2 count, scoring two runs.
 
The Geckos got things moving in the first inning, when Lauren Salcido induced Amaya Porch to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored. In the top of the second inning, Eastern Arizona tied things up at one.  Braelynn Kaulu-Choyfoo hit a solo homer. GateWay notched four runs in the fifth inning.  The Geckos big bats were led by Jasmine Cardenas and Kelly Katalbas, both knocking in runs of homers in the inning.
 
Salcido toed the rubber for the Gila Monsters. The pitcher lasted five innings, allowing five hits and five runs while striking out three and walking one. Katalbas was in the pitcher's circle for GateWay. The bulldog went seven innings, allowing six runs on eight hits and striking out 12.
 
Angelina Martinez led the Geckos with two hits in three at bats.
 
Softball face Arizona Western next in a home matchup on Thursday, April 6. First game starts at 1pm. This game was rescheduled from a previous date.
