GateWay Softball Clinches the Lead in Seventh Inning for 4-3 Victory Over Glendale in Game 1 and Grabs Lead in Sixth Inning for 8-5 Victory in Game 2!
 
 
In game 1 GateWay Softball took the lead late in the game in a 4-3 victory over Glendale on Tuesday.  Geckos were down 3-2 in the top of the seventh inning when Leticia Herrera doubled on a 2-1 count, scoring two runs. Herrera collected four hits in four at bats to help lead Gateway to victory.  Herrera singled in the first, singled in the third, singled in the fifth, and doubled in the seventh. In the first inning, the Geckos got their offense started when Kelly Katalbas singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run. GateWay collected 12 hits in game 1.  Herrera, Amaya Porch, and Katalbas each managed multiple hits.  
 
Katalbas led the Geckos to victory on the rubber. The fireballer went seven innings, allowing three unearned runs on six hits, striking out six and walking one. MJ Bannon was on the rubber for Glendale. The pitcher allowed 11 hits and four runs over six innings, striking out three and walking one.  
 
 
 
The Lady Geckos snatched the lead late in the game 2 in an 8-5 victory over the Gauchos.  GateWay knotted the game up at five in the top of the fourth inning when Amaya Porch singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run. The Geckos put up four runs in the fourth inning.  Shantel Ortiz, Leticia Herrera, Angelina Martinez, and Porch all moved runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning. GateWay took the lead in the top of the sixth when Kelly Katalbas doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs. Glendale scored five runs in the first inning, but the Geckos still managed to pull out the victory.  
 
Kaitlin Samuelson was on the rubber to start game 2 for GateWay. The righthander struggled early and only went two-thirds of an inning, allowing five runs on three hits. Kelly Katalbas came in relief to finish out he first inning. Katalbas went six and one third inning allowing 3 hits and zero runs while striking out eight. 
 
The Geckos launched one home run on the day. Porch had a long ball in the second inning. GateWay collected 14 hits.  Martinez, Ortiz, Rebekka Nance, Porch, and Katalbas all managed multiple hit.  Ortiz and Martinez both had three hits to lead the team.
 
 
Softball heads south to Tucson on Saturday to face Pima in a doubleheader starting at 12n.
