Geckos fall behind early to tough CAC squad

Game 1

The Geckos struggled to contain the high-powered offense of Central Arizona College, giving up eight runs (5 in the first inning). Central Arizona got things moving in the first inning, when an error scored two runs for Central Arizona College. A double by Amaya Porch in the second inning was a positive for the Geckos. Jessica Mercado led things off in the circle for Central Arizona College. The fireballer went five innings, allowing zero runs on two hits, striking out nine and walking one. Kaitlin Samuelson toed the rubber for GateWay. The pitcher went four innings, allowing eight runs on five hits and striking out four. Despite the early struggle Samuleson found a way to keep her team in the game and settled in after the first inning. Porch and Shantel Ortiz each managed one hit to lead the Geckos. 

 

Game 2

GateWay Geckos fell behind early and couldn't come back in game 2 in a 12-2 loss to Central Arizona College on Tuesday. The Geckos struggled to contain the CAC's offense, giving up 12 runs. Central Arizona College got things started in the first inning.  Fields doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run. CAC scored four runs in the third inning.  Kayla Lopez and Alivia De La Cruz all drove in runs in the frame. Dezeray Levario led things off in the circle for Central Arizona College. Levario surrendered two runs on two hits over five innings, striking out seven. Kelly Katalbas led things off on the rubber for GateWay. The pitcher lasted three innings, allowing nine hits and nine runs 5 earned.  Kaitlin Samuelson threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen. Kaidiance Cleland and Angelina Martinez all had one hit to lead the Geckos.
