Baseball Takes High-Scoring Game From Central Arizona, 10-9

Scorekeepers were kept busy on Wednesday night during a high-scoring contest between GateWay Baseball and Central Arizona College where the Geckos prevailed 10-9 in a 16 inning battle after being down 0-9 in the 5th inning.

Central Arizona got things started in the second inning scoring one run when DJ Massey singled. The Vaqueros scored three runs in the second and the fourth inning, two runs in the third inning and their final run of the night was scored in the fifth inning. The Geckos answered back scoring two runs in the sixth inning, three in the seventh, and four in the ninth to tie it up and take the game into extra innings. After six scoreless extra innings for both teams Gateway walked it off in the 16th inning on a wild pitch!!

Michael Riley proved to be a clutch pitcher in extra innings and earned the win for GateWay. Riley allowed two hits and zero runs over five and two-thirds innings, striking out five and walking zero. Patrick Stietz was on the pitcher's mound for Central. The pitcher lasted five innings, allowing two hits and zero runs while striking out six and walking zero. Kyle Cop started the game for GateWay. The righthander surrendered five runs on six hits over three innings, striking out one and walking one. Also contributing to the Geckos win from the bullpen were Luke Legumina, Tyler Smith, Micky Scheetz, Connor Thiele, and Isaac Rehfield. The five releavers combined for seven innings, giving up five hits and one run, striking out six. 

GateWay scattered 11 hits in the game.  Kevynn Fernandez, Raenan Padilla, and Jeffrey Martz each had multiple hits for the Geckos. Central Arizona saw the ball well, racking up 16 hits in the game.  Tyrese Johnson, Harrison, Webb, Braydon Rodgers, and Young all collected multiple hits for CAC.  

The Geckos finish up their regular season conference play against Scottsdale in a 3pm doubleheader on Friday at The Gene.
