GateWay Grabs Lead in Seventh Inning to Defeat and Sweep Phoenix College
GateWay snagged a late lead and defeated Phoenix College 9-8 on Wednesday. The Geckos trailed 8-7 in the bottom of the seventh inning when Kaeden Moore's sac fly scored two runs for GateWay.
 
Phoenix College scored six runs in the second inning, but the Geckos still managed to pull out the victory.  The big inning for Phoenix College came thanks to a single by Cole Snidow and Brycen Tambone, and a double by Jake Willerup. In the bottom of the sixth inning, GateWay tied things up at seven when Jeffrey Martz homered on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs. The Geckos put up five runs in the fifth inning, four of which were scored off a grandslam by Trey Winget.
 
Isaac Rehfield led the Geckos to victory on the mound. The southpaw allowed two hits and one run over three innings, striking out two and walking one.  Michael Riley threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen, striking out five to earning his eighth save of the season. Logan Saloman was on the pitcher's mound for the Bears. Saloman lasted four and a third innings, allowing three hits and four runs while striking out four.  Eddie Torres, Presley Monteforte, and Bryce Brassfield each contributed in relief for Phoenix College. Kyle Cop started the game for GateWay, in spite of a rough second inning where six runs were scored, he came back strong to finish his last two innings allowing only two hits and and striking out three.
 
GateWay smacked two home runs on the day. Winget hit a grand slam in the fifth inning and Martz had a deep ball to left in the sixth inning scoring two runs. The Geckos saw the ball well today, racking up 11 hits in the game.  Winget, Braden Watkins, and Diego Trujillo each collected multiple hits. Phoenix College racked up nine hits on the day.  Casey Wayne and Snidow each had multiple hits for the Bears.
