Gateway Baseball Claims 11-5 Victory Over Phoenix College
The Geckos started off strong in an 11-5 victory over Phoenix College on Tuesday. GateWay got on the board in the first inning when Macs Carrillo singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs. The Geckos went on to score four runs in the second inning.  The offense in the inning was led by Jeffrey Martz, Carrillo, and Raenan Padilla, all knocking in runs.
 
Andres Gonzalez led the Geckos to victory on the mound. The righthander went five and a third innings, allowing four runs on eight hits and striking out five.  Tyler Smith, Micky Scheetz, and Martz all put in work in relief out of the bullpen, steering their team towards the victory.
 
Daniel Sotelo was on the pitcher's mound for Phoenix College. The lefthander surrendered seven runs on seven hits over one and one-third innings, striking out three and walking one.  Heitaro Hayashi, Braeden Romero, and Mat Mayer each contributed in relief for Phoenix the Bears.
 
GateWay totaled 14 hits in the game.  Martz, Kaeden Moore, Carrillo, and Kevynn Fernandez each racked up three hits to lead the Geckos. Martz was a homerun shy of hitting for the cycle, hitting a triple in the second inning and a double in the sixth. Gateway was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error.
 
GateWay will face PC again tomorrow for another home match-up. First pitch at 3pm.
