Baseball Clinches the Lead After Huge 10 Run Seventh Inning for a Victory Over Eastern Arizona
GateWay Baseball defeated Eastern Arizona College 14-9 on Tuesday in game 2 after taking the lead late in the game. 
 
In the first inning, Eastern Arizona got their offense started and took a 3-0 lead. GW answered back in the top of third inning with a 2 run home run by Trey Winget to make the game 3-2. The Gila Monsters scored four more runs in the fourth inning.  After GateWay scored one run in the top of the sixth on an error, EAC answered with one of their own. The Geckos, down 9-4 to start the seventh inning, put up a massive 10 run inning and took the lead for good. Doubles from Martz, Moore, and Carrillo all helped contribute to the big run inning.
 
Kyle Cop started the game for the Geckos. The pitcher surrendered six runs (three earned) on six hits over three and two-thirds innings, striking out four and walking one. Zach Martinez earned the win for GateWay. The Martinez lasted two and a third innings, allowing four hits and one earned run while striking out one.  Mickey Scheetz threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen.  Scheetz recorded the last nine outs to earn the save for GateWay, allowing no runs on three hits with three strikeouts. Schiess was on the pitcher's mound for Eastern Arizona. Schiess went three and a third innings, allowing two runs on nine hits, striking out four and walking one.  Garcia, Marshall, and Perales each contributed in relief for EAC.
 
GateWay was boosted by Kaeden Moore who went 5-for-5 at the plate.  Moore doubled in the first, singled in the third, singled in the fourth, doubled in the seventh, and singled in the eighth. The Geckos smacked one home run on the day. Trey Winget had a homer in the third inning. Overall GateWay collected 18 hits.  Moore, James Warren, Winget, Jeff Martz, and Macs Carrillo all managed multiple hits for GateWay. Winget finished the day hitting for the cycle with his homerun in the third, triple in the fifth, and a single and double in the seventh.
