Baseball Splits with Phoenix College
GateWay walks away victorious over Phoenix College, 5-2 in game one, but late scores costs the Geckos in game two.
 
 
After the rain postponed game one Gateway faced Phoneix College in a double header on Wednesday. In game one Cade Nelson earned the victory on the pitcher's mound for the Geckos. The righty went seven innings, allowing zero runs on three hits and striking out four.  Kyle Cop and Jeffrey Martz entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. Daniel Sotelo started the game for Phoenix College. The southpaw allowed two hits and zero runs over seven innings, striking out 12 and walking one.  
 
GateWay socked two home runs on the day. Raenan Padilla and Diego Trujillo both put one out in the eighth inning. The Geckos racked up six hits in the game.  Padilla and Macs Carrillo both had multiple hits for GateWay. 
 
In game two GateWay lost the lead late in a 4-2 defeat to Phoenix College.  The game was tied at two with the Bears batting in the bottom of the sixth when an error scored one run for PC.
 
Brogan Stevens was on the mound for Phoenix College. The pitcher lasted four innings, allowing one hit and one run while striking out six. Luke Legumina led things off on the mound for GateWay. The righty went four and a third innings, allowing two runs on five hits and striking out one.  Zach Martinez threw one and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen.
 
Nathan Greene went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead the Geckos in hits. Chris Billings led Phoenix College with two hits in three at bats.
