Baseball Splits with Chandler-Gilbert
Baseball splits with Chandler-Gilbert taking the win at home in game one on Friday and losing game two on Saturday on the road. 
 
 
In game one the Geckos stole the lead late in the game in a 7-6 victory over the Coyotes.  The game was tied at six with GateWay batting in the bottom of the seventh when Dominick Cassell singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run. GateWay built a five-run lead in the fourth inning and then held off CGCC's charge.  The Coyotes score five runs in the failed comeback on a double by Ryder Hancock in the sixth, a single by Jamison Armstrong in the seventh, a triple by Dante Turgeon in the seventh, and a single by Tate Lewis in the seventh. GWCC got on the board in the first inning when Macs Carrillo grounded out, scoring one run. The Geckos notched four runs in the fourth inning.  GateWay's big bats were led by Diego Trujillo, Cassell, and Jeff Martz, all knocking in runs in the inning.
 
Jake Geis got the start for GateWay. Geis went six and two-thirds innings, allowing five runs on six hits, striking out five and walking one. Andrew Yusypchuk was on the pitcher's mound for Chandler-Gilbert. He allowed 12 hits and six runs over five innings, striking out one and walking one. Isaac Rehfield and Michael Riley both pitched in relief for the Geckos going one and a third and one inning resepctively. Rehfield recorded the win for GWCC allowing 1 run on 3 hits and 2 strike outs. Riley earned his fifth save of the season allowing no hits or runs and one strike out. 
 
The Geckos launched one home run on the day. Cassell put one out in the fourth inning. GateWay scattered 15 hits in the game.  Trujillo, Cassell, Kaeden Moore, Nathan Greene, and Martz each had multiple hits for the Geckos.  Trujillo and Cassell both went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead GateWay in hits.
 
 
 
In game two GateWay stayed in it until the end, but Chandler-Gilbter pulled away late in a 9-6 victory on Saturday.  The game was tied at four with CGCC batting in the bottom of the seventh when an multiple errors scored multiple runs for the Coyotes. The Geckos lost despite out-hitting the Coyotes ten to eight.
 
In the second inning, CGCC got their offense started.  Ethan Hatch drove in one with a single. The Geckos scored three runs in the third inning.  GateWay put the pressure on, lead by a single by Trey Winget, a groundout by Kaeden Moore, and a double by Martz. GateWay knotted the game up at four in the top of the fifth inning.  Jeff Martz doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run. 
 
Trey Peters led things off on the pitcher's mound for CGCC. Peters went six and two-thirds innings, allowing four runs on eight hits, striking out seven and walking zero. Andres Gonzalez started the game for GateWay. The righthander surrendered four runs on three hits over five innings, striking out five.  Kyle Cop and Mickey Scheetz entered the game as relief, throwing one and two-thirds innings and one and one-third innings respectively.
 
GateWay saw the ball well today, racking up ten hits in the game.  Martz, Braden Watkins, and Diego Trujillo each managed multiple hits for the Geckos.  Martz went 3-for-5 at the plate to lead GateWay in hits.
 
Baseball is back in action on Tuesday at home and Wednesday on the road as the face Phoenix College. Both games will be at 3:00pm.
