Baseball Splits with Glendale
After a rain delay on Tuesday forced game one of the series to be completed on Thursday, the Geckos went 1-1 againts the Gauchos this week. Winning the postponed game one 15-9 and just coming up short in game two, losing 4-5.
 
In game one there was plenty of action on the basepaths as the Geckos collected 13 hits and Glendale had 12. GateWay got things started in the first inning when Jeff Martz grounded out, scoring one run. After the Geckos scored two runs in the top of the third, the Gauchos answered with two of their own.  GateWay scored in the third when Nolan Kutcher singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.  Glendale then answered when Preston Lucas singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs.  In the bottom of the fifth inning, Glendale tied things up at eight. The Geckos grabbed a lead in the seventh inning when Dominick Cassell singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run. GateWay scored four runs in the ninth inning.  The offensive onslaught by the Geckos was led by James Warren, Diego Alvarado, Kaeden Moore, and Martz, all driving in runs in the frame. Nathan Greene, Cassell, Alvarado, and Trey Winget all had multiple hits for GateWay in game one.  Greene went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Geckos in hits.
 
Cade Nelson led things off on the pitcher's mound for GateWay ine game one. Nelson went three and two-thirds innings, allowing two earned runs on five hits, striking out three and walking zero. Jose Velasquez was on the mound for Glendale. The righty went two and two-thirds innings, allowing five runs on four hits, striking out two and walking one.  Zach Martinez pitched in relief for the Geckos. Martinez went five innings, allowing three earned runs on seven hits, striking out one.
 
 
In game two the Geckos clawed back, but fell short. GateWays effort to come back from down four runs in the eighth inning came up just short, as they fell 5-4 to Glendale on Wednesday. The Geckos scored three runs in the failed comeback on a single by Trey Winget and a single by Raenan Padilla. GateWay opened up scoring in the first inning when they scored one run on a single by Macs Carrillo. Glendale pulled away for good with two runs in the third inning. Winget led the Geckos with two hits in two at bats.
 
Tyler Bribiescas toed the rubber for Glendale in game two. The lefthander allowed four hits and one run over five innings, striking out nine. Luke Legumina was on the pitcher's mound for GateWay. The righthander went four and two-thirds innings, allowing two runs on four hits and striking out four.  Mickey Scheetz, Tyler Smith, and Kyle Cop each contributed in relief for the Geckos.
