Baseball Grabs Lead in Eighth Inning for Victory Over Paradise Valley
Baseball took the lead late and defeated Paradise Valley 8-4 on Saturday. The Geckos were down 4-3 in the top of the eighth inning when Trey Winget doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs.
 
Gateway got things moving in the first inning, when an error scored two runs.  In the bottom of the third inning, the Pumas tied things up at two.  
 
Andres Gonzalez led things off on the mound for GateWay. The righty went four innings, allowing three runs on five hits, striking out six and walking one. Zach Martinez and Michael Riley both pitched two innings for the Geckos out of the bullpen. Zach allowed one run on one hit and struck out 3, earning the win for the day. Michael allowed one hit and no runs with two K's to earn his forth save on the season. Liam O'Brien led things off on the mound for Paradise Valley. O'Brien went seven innings, allowing three runs on two hits and striking out ten.  
 
Geck Nation tallied seven hits on the day.  Kaeden Moore and Macs Carrillo each racked up multiple hits for GateWay.  Carrillo and Moore each managed two hits to lead way.  GateWay didn't commit a single error in the field. 
 
Paradise Valley racked up seven hits in the game.  Robbie Liddington and Cole Williams all collected multiple hits for the Pumas.
 
Baseball will be back in action on Tuesday, February 14th at Glendale. First pitch at 3pm.
