Geckos win Home opener

Trey Winget would not be denied at the plate on Wednesday, picking up four hits and leading the Geckos to a 9-6 win over Arizona Christian University Prospect JV.  Winget singled in the first, singled in the third, doubled in the sixth, and tripled in the seventh.

The Geckos earned the victory despite allowing Arizona Christian University to score five runs in the fifth inning.

The Geckos got on the board in the first inning when Braden Watkins drew a walk, then scored later in the inning.

The Geckos pulled away for good with one run in the fifth inning.  Raenan Padilla doubled on a 0-1 count, scoring a run.

The Geckos put up four runs in the third inning.  The scoring was led by Winget, Nathan Greene, and Kevynn Fernandez, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.

Cade Nelson was on the mound for the Geckos. The righthander went one inning, allowing zero runs on zero hits, striking out one and walking zero.

The Geckos had ten hits in the game.  Winget, Padilla, and Jeff Martz all managed multiple hits.  Winget led the way with four hits in four at bats.
