Geckos outlast the Pumas in a slugfest at the Gene

Both the Geckos and PVCC had their offenses going on Friday, but GateWay eventually prevailed 12-6. PVCC took an early lead in the second inning.  PVCC scored one run when Ty Cowan singled. The Geckos took the lead for good with three runs in the fifth inning.  In the fifth David Enriquez induced Diego Trujillo to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored, an error scored one run for GateWay, and Marcus Lucas doubled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run. The Geckos put up four runs in the eighth inning.  GW's offense in the inning was led by Kaeden Moore, Daniel Johnson, Braedon Stoakes, and Trujillo, who all drove in runs. PVCC scored three runs in the fourth inning.  PVCC's big inning was driven by a triple by Ryan Romero and a single by Chaz Clemons. Cade Nelson got the start for GateWay. The pitcher surrendered six runs on seven hits over three and two-thirds innings, striking out one. Enriquez started the game for PVCC. Enriquez surrendered seven runs on eight hits over five innings, striking out five.  Tomas Urbina and James Webster entered the game from the bullpen, throwing two and a third innings and two-thirds of an inning respectively. The Geckos tallied 13 hits in the game.  Nomar Basurto, Treston Shallenberger, and Johnson all managed multiple hits for GateWay.  Shallenberger and Basurto each managed three hits to lead the team. PVCC scattered 12 hits in the game.  Clemons, Ike George, and Kelly Corl each had multiple hits for PVCC.  Clemons led PVCC with three hits in five at bats.
