Geckos rally falls short in the 9th against Salt Lake CC

The Geckos stayed in it until the end, but Salt Lake CC Bruins pulled away late in an 8-6 victory on Sunday.  The game was tied at three with Salt Lake CC Bruins batting in the top of the seventh when Jaxon Weatherly tripled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run. GW collected 8 hits and Salt Lake CC Bruins had 12 in the high-scoring affair. In the second inning, Salt Lake CC Bruins got their offense started.  Salt Lake CC Bruins scored one run when Jarret Elmer doubled. In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Geckos tied things up at three.  Daniel Johnson singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run. After Salt Lake CC Bruins scored one run in the top of the ninth, GW answered back with one of their own and had the tying run on base and struck out to end the game. Dax Purser was on the pitcher's mound for Salt Lake CC Bruins. The lefthander lasted four and a third innings, allowing three hits and two runs while striking out six. Logan Martin was on the mound for GW. Martin surrendered one run on three hits over three innings, striking out five.  Levi White, Mickey Scheetz, Isaac Rehfield, and Zach Martinez each entered the game as relief, throwing two and a third innings, one and two-thirds innings, one inning, and one inning respectively. The Geckos tallied one home run on the day. Nomar Basurto put one out in the seventh inning. Trujillo and Johnson each racked up multiple hits for GW.  Johnson and Trujillo each had two hits to lead GateWay. Salt Lake CC Bruins tallied 12 hits on the day.  Travis Johnson, Braden Winget, Elmer, and Bruer Webster each had multiple hits for Salt Lake CC Bruins.  Johnson led Salt Lake CC Bruins with three hits in four at bats.
