Baseball Finishes 3-1 at the Zinger Bats Tournament!

In Game 3 the scorekeepers were kept busy during a high-scoring contest between GateWay Geckos and the College of Southern Nevada Coyotes where the Geckos prevailed 7-6.

CSN opened up scoring in the second inning.  Jack Hale's sac fly scored two runs for College of Southern Nevada. GateWay pulled away for good with six runs in the fifth inning.  In the fifth Trey Winget singled on a 0-2 count, scoring one run, Diego Trujillo singled on a 2-1 count, scoring two runs, Nolan Kutcher was hit by a pitch, driving in a run, and Diego Alvarado singled on a 1-2 count, driving in two more runs.

Tyler Smith was credited with the victory for the Geckos, surrendering one run on two hits over one and two-thirds innings, striking out one and walking one.  Michael Riley, Jeff Martz, and Mickey Scheetz all put in work in relief out of the bullpen, steering their team towards the victory.  Riley recorded the last four outs to earn the save for GateWay. Nolan Ficklin took the loss for the Coyotes allowing three runs on one hit and walking one.

Cade Nelson started the game for GateWay. The righthander lasted four innings, allowing four hits and two runs while striking out two and walking one. Jesus Gonzalez started the game for College of Southern Nevada. The pitcher surrendered three runs on six hits over four and two-thirds innings, striking out seven

Geck Nation racked up ten hits on the day. Trujillo and Alvarado each collected two hits to lead the way.  The Geckos were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Kaeden Moore made the most plays with six.



In the final game of the weekend GateWay got out to a four-run lead in the eighth inning and held on for a 6-5 victory over El Paso CC. The Geckos earned the victory despite allowing the Tejanos to score three runs on an error in the ninth inning. 

GateWay's big bats in the eigth inning were led by a single by Dominick Cassell and a home run by Jeffrey Martz, scoring three runs total in the inning.

Luke Legumina got the start for the Geckos allowing one hit and zero runs over four innings, striking out three. William Gross toed the rubber for EPCC. The lefty allowed three hits and three runs over four and two-thirds innings, striking out six and walking one.  Bryan Aguirre threw three and a third innings in relief.

GateWay launched one missle of a home run on the day by Martz that cleared the left field net in the eighth inning with a exit velocity of 106 MPH. Geck Nation collected nine hits on the day.  Raenan Padilla, Kaeden Moore, and Macs Carrillo each racked up multiple hits for the Geckos.
