Robert Shabansky brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of success to his roles as Athletic Director and Head Baseball Coach at GateWay Community College. A former professional pitcher for the Arizona Diamondbacks and an alumnus of the University of Arizona baseball program, he has a deep understanding of what it takes to develop players for the next level.

Since 2008, Shabansky has led the GateWay baseball program, achieving a number of significant milestones. Under his guidance, 29 baseball players have been drafted, and over 220 have moved on to four-year colleges. He has led the team to two NJCAA College World Series appearances, one NJCAA District Playoff Series, three ACCAC & NJCAA Region 1 Runners up and three ACCAC & NJCAA Region 1 Championships. Shabansky was named the NJCAA Southwest Region Coach of the Year in both 2011 and 2016, and the 2024 USA Baseball Developmental Coach of the Year.

His commitment to student-athlete success extends beyond the field. GateWay Baseball has had over 100 NJCAA All-Academic Award Winners and qualified for the NJCAA All-Academic teams in 2010, 2012, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2024, and 2025. He is also recognized for his unwavering ethics and integrity, ensuring his program aligns with the values of the Maricopa Community Colleges, ACCAC, and NJCAA. Shabansky is the current Maricopa Community Colleges District Athletic Council President and the ACCAC Conference Secretary and President Elect.

In addition to his college coaching, Shabansky has served with USA Baseball since 2009, where he has contributed as the pitching coach for the 15 and 16U National Teams in 2010, 2011, 2015, 2016, 2018, 2019, and 2021. He had the privilege of being named the 15U National Team Manager in 2017, 2023, and 2024. He has also worked on the task force for the USA Baseball West Champs since 2009 and has been to several NTDP Camps over the years. In recent years he has also assisted with the MLB Draft Combine held here in Phoenix, Arizona. 

Rob Shabansky has been in the Athletic Director Role at GateWay Community College since 2015. He was instrumental in helping secure a proper space for the athletics department on campus, ensuring the student-athletes have access to a proper study space, computers, lockers, a weight room, and an athletic training room. He has helped to improve the graduation and transfer rates for sophomore student-athletes and is dedicated to ensuring that all student athletes thrive at GateWay.
