Gretchen Wagnitz serves in a dual leadership role at GateWay Community College as the Head Athletic Trainer and Assistant Athletic Director. Since joining GateWay in 2012, she has been a cornerstone of the athletics department, overseeing the health and performance of student-athletes in men’s and women’s soccer, baseball, and softballIn her capacity as Head Athletic Trainer, Gretchen manages injury evaluations, rehabilitation programs, and medical communications for the Geckos' athletic programs. She also helps develope all strength and conditioning programs for the student-athletes.

As Assistant Athletic Director, she oversees critical administrative functions, including coordinating academic advising, study hall, weekly grade checks, helping to manage NJCAA eligibility, travel authorizations, and department fundraising. Additionally she serves as the department’s primary content creator for social media and the athletics websiteGretchen also contributes to the GateWay academic community as an Adjunct Faculty member, teaching courses in Lifetime Fitness and the Theories of Coaching Baseball and Softball.

Prior to her time at GateWay, Gretchen gained extensive experience across collegiate, secondary school, and industrial settings. Her previous roles include serving as a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer at Montana State University, Head Athletic Trainer at Arcadia High School, and a Staff Specialist Athletic Trainer for Work-Fit Inc., where she provided athletic training services for a major aerospace manufacturer.

She holds a Master of Science in Health and Human Development with an emphasis in Exercise and Nutrition from Montana State University and a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training from Northern Arizona UniversityGretchen is a BOC Certified Athletic Trainer and is licensed in the state of Arizona. She is also an ACSM Certified Exercise Physiologist and an active member of the National Athletic Trainers Association. Outside of GateWay, Gretchen competes in powerlifting, holding four state records, and enjoys yoga, hiking, gardening, and spending time with her dog Meatball.
