GateWay softball edged out Glendale in a nail-biting 6-5 softball contest on Friday to finish the 2024 season. The game started off storng for Glendale with the Gauchos putting up 4 runs in the first 4 innings, but the Geckos responded with 6 run in the last 3 innings, including 4 runs in the 6th inning, to secure the win. It was a back-and-forth battle with both teams showcasing strong offensive performances. Glendale tallied more hits (9-8) than GateWay, but it was the timely hitting of the Gateway batters that proved decisive. The Geckos capitalized on scoring opportunities, plating six runs on just eight hits. Jessica Wallace led the offense, going 1-for-2 with a double and two RBI. Antarez Sierra, Leticia Herrera, and Gabby Cicchillo each added two hits, a double each, a run, and an RBI for Gateway. Ariana Lloyd also had a strong outing going 1-for-1 with an RBI and a run scored.
Aryka Ortega secured the win for GateWay, pitching a complete game. She allowed seven hits and five runs (three earned) while striking out two batters. Glendale's offense threatened throughout the contest, but Ortega was able to make key pitches when it mattered most.
The Lady Geckos finish their 2024 season with a conference record of 11-27 and an overall record of 14-30, the most wins in the history of the program!
