Baseball holds on for a Wild 10-7 Victory over Glendale

In a back-and-forth offensive slugfest, GateWay outlasted Glendale by a score of 10-7 on Saturday, April 13th at Glendale Community College. GateWay jumped out to an early lead with two runs in the second inning, but Glendale responded with five runs over the next five innings to take a 5-2 advantage. The GateWay offense came alive in the top of the eighth, plating eight runs to seize control of the game, 10-5. Key hits in the inning included a one-run single by Jeffery Martz, Macs Carrillo, Treston Shallenberger, two single RBIs by Jeter Mauzey, and a two-run single by Braden Watkins. Glendale refused to go down quietly, scoring two runs in the bottom of the ninth. However, it that wasn't enough and the Geckos walked away with the victory.

Pitching Breakdown

GateWay started Logan Martin, tossing six innings and allowing five runs on ten hits. Reliever Matthew DAmato earned the win with two innings allowing two runs, while Jeffrey Martz closed out the game in the ninth striking out three and getting the save.

Offensive Leaders

GateWay pounded out 13 hits in the contest, led by a 3-for-5 performance from Treston Shallenberger with two RBI. Jeffrey Martz and Macs Carrillo each went 2-for-5 with an RBI, Martz scoring two runs and Carrillo scoring one.  Jeter Mauzey and Braden Watkins, each chipped in with two RBI, with Watkins scoring a run and stealing a base as well. Also contributing was Nolan Kutcher who went 1-for-2 with a double and two runs scored and Roy Carrasco who had an RBI.
