GateWay Takes One From Western

GateWay Takes One From Western

In a duel that went down to the wire, GateWay walked it off in the 9th inning of a 7 inning game against Arizona Western finishing with a score of 3-2 on Wednesday. Despite collecting seven hits, AWC was unable to capitalize on scoring opportunities. Treston Shallenberger led the way for the Geckos, going 1-for-3 with a triple, a run scored, an RBI, and a stolen base. Jeffrey Martz also had a multi-hit game, finishing 2-for-4 with two triples, and an RBI. Also contributing was Andrew Hunt who went 2-for-3 with a triple, a sac, and a run scored.

GateWays starting pitcher Braeden Romero threw 6.2 innings, allowing five hits and two runs (one earned) while striking out seven. Mat Mayer came on in relief for GWC in the seventh inning and earned the win, pitching 2.1 scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and striking out three.

An impressive throw by center fielder Andrew Hunt to get a runner out at home in the top of a 9th followed by a lead off triple in the bottom of the 9th for Hunt and James Warren's RBI single secured the walk off win for the Geckos.
