Baseball Opens up DI Conference Play with a Split Against Central Arizona

GW 24 Dominates Central Arizona College 10-1

GateWay cruised to a convincing 10-1 victory over Central Arizona on Thursday afternoon, pounding out 10 hits. The Geckos jumped on the board in the bottom of the 6th inning with a two-run single by James Warren. They then exploded for 8 runs in the bottom of the 7th inning, highlighted by a two-run single by Kevynn Fernandez and a two-run single by Jeter Mauzey. Central Arizona's only run came in the top of the 4th inning.

Central Arizona Defeats GateWay by a Score of 5-1

Central Arizona beat GateWay in a lopsided affair on Wednesday afternoon. The Vaqueros outhit the Geckos 7-5 and capitalized on several scoring opportunities to secure the victory.

GateWay struggled to generate offense against the Central Arizona pitching staff. The Geckos managed just five hits, with Kevyn Fernandez collecting two. Starting pitcher Gus Rogers took the loss for GateWay, allowing five runs on five hits in 5.67 innings.

Central Arizona took control of the game early, scoring a run in the top of the first inning. They added three more runs in the fourth and another in the fifth to extend their lead to 5-0. GateWay finally got on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning, but it was too little, too late, as Central Arizona cruised to a decisive victory.

Mat Mayer and Tyler Smith pitched in relief for the Geckos, combining for 2.33 scoreless innings.
