Softball Split their conference opener series against Scottsdale on Tuesday night. 

Game 1: 

Gateway fell short against Scottsdale in a low scoring affair, losing by a score of 1-0. Despite outhitting their opponents 6-3, Gateway was unable to capitalize on scoring opportunities, leaving 7 runners on base throughout the game.

  • Kelly Katalbas pitched a complete game, allowing only 1 run on 3 hits.
  • She struck out 12 batters and walked 1.
  • Despite the strong pitching performance, Gateway couldn't overcome the lack of offensive production.

Game 2: 

The Geckos defeated the Artichokes 9-0 in a dominant performance. Jessica Wallace was the offensive star for Gateway, going 3-for-4 with 3 runs scored, 2 home runs, and 7 RBIs. Aryka Ortega pitched a complete game shutout for Gateway, allowing only 1 hit and striking out 6 batters.

Offensive Breakdown:

  • Gateway pounded out 13 hits, including 4 doubles and 2 home runs, compared to Scottsdale's 1 hit.
  • Jessica Wallace led the way offensively, with her 3-hit, 7-RBI performance.
  • Rebekka Nance, Gabby Cicchilo, Madison Brandon, and Alexandra Martinez also had multi-hit games for Gateway.
